Inter Milan 2-3 AC Milan
AC Milan are the 2025 Supercoppa Italiana champions thanks to a sensational comeback from 2-0 down to beat Inter Milan win 3-2 on Monday night in Riyadh.
Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez gave Inter a lead on the cusp of half time and then Mehdi Taremi doubled the lead just after the break. Theo Hernandez pulled a goal back for Milan with a superbly taken free kick and Christian Pulisic levelled late on; and, as the game looked to heading to penalties Tammy Abraham poked home deep in injury time to give Milan a famous victory.
This Derbi Di Milano final was Rossoneri boss Sergio Conceicao’s second match in charge after he masterminded a semi-final win over Juventus, and this win over Simone Inzaghi’s Inter will be so, so sweet.
Highlights of the game
Inter Milan brushed Atalanta aside in the semi-final but they didn’t have it all their own way in the early exchanges of the final as Pulisic almost latched on to a long through ball only to be denied by Yann Sommer. And then the USA star fed Tijjani Reijnders but the Dutchman’s shot flew into the side netting. Inter hit back and Federico Dimarco fired a bullet of a shot towards the top corner forcing Mike Maignan into a fingertip save.
In an evenly matched first half Inter had plenty of corners without making a clear cut chance, often choosing to take them short while I Rossoneri continued to control possession, probing to try to open up the Inter defence, and when Pulisic rolled a ball into the danger area it was Inter captain and striker Martinez who was on hand to clear. In the last minute of the first half Inter defender Allesandro Bastoni fired a ball right across the face of goal with nobody there to poke the ball home.
But then, after a tight first 45 the goal came. Inter took a short throw and Taremi fed Martinez who cut inside Theo Hernandez and drilled the ball home.
It was a bit harsh on I Rossoneri who had given a good account of themselves; but any thoughts of a second half comeback were dealt a heavy blow when Inter struck again, just two minutes after the break. This time the Iranian creator Taremi turned scorer as he brilliantly controlled a long ball over the top from Stefan de Vrij, before sweeping his shot past Maignan and into the bottom corner.
I Rossoneri were down but not out and Conceicao brought on Rafael Leao; and he made an immediate impact, winning a free kick on the edge of the area which Hernandez curled home to half the deficit. Milan pressed for a leveller and, after Pulisic spurned a decent chance, Bastoni made a brave block, with his face, to stop a Reijnders pile driver. The defender took a couple of minutes to recover and, in the meantime Sommer made a great stop to deny Alvaro Morata. At the other end of the pitch Carlos Augusto almost made to 3-1, but his header hit the post and Maignan picked up the rebound. Then, with seven minutes left, Hernandez pulled the ball back for Pulisic to fire a low shot home for 2-2.
Martinez had a chance to win it for Inter but he scuffed his finish and he paid dearly when Milan substitute Abraham met a Pulisic pull back to tap in the winner.
Key statistics
The last time these two met I Rossoneri earned a 2-1 win as centre back Matteo Gabbia scored a late winner, which temporarily eased the pressure on former manager Paulo Fonseca. But the Supercoppa Italiana 2025 betting odds were firmly in the Nerazzurri camp and recent form backed that up. While AC Milan came into the competition with two wins in five, Inter had won four of their last five.
The story of the final Supercoppa Italiana 2025 highlights was a dramatic end to end affair but in the end it was I Rossoneri who crushed Inter’s dream to become the first team to win the Supercoppa four years in succession.
What’s next?
Now it’s back to Serie A action for the Milan giants and I Rossoneri will start with a nice home tie against 17th placed Cagliari on Saturday and then, on Sunday, Inter have an away game against strugglers Venezia, currently in 19th.
AC Milan are eight points behind Lazio in fourth place and five behind Fiorentina in sixth, while Inter are in the thick of the race for the Scudetto, in third place and just four points behind leaders Napoli with two games in hand. I Parteponei are at home to Hellas Verona on Sunday and will be full of confidence after winning 3-0 away to Fiorentina last Saturday. Second placed Atalanta are away to Udinese on Saturday and, here at SBOTOP, we’ll be back with previews and the best Asian Handicap betting offers as Serie A springs back into action. In the meantime it’s time to celebrate a first trophy of the year for Conceicao’s AC Milan, while Inter can spend a day or two licking their wounds.
