Serie A: Time is Running Out for Atalanta and Juventus

Atalanta vs Juventus

Two Champions League hopefuls will square off this weekend, as Atalanta will host Juventus at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Saturday night, with both Serie A teams aiming to tack on as many points as possible in the final few matchdays of the 2025-26 campaign.

Inter Milan, Napoli, AC Milan, and Como occupy the Top 4 spots in the Italian top-flight standings, and Juventus are lurking as the fifth seed with 57 points – only one point adrift from Como. Meanwhile, Atalanta are two notches below Juventus with 53 points.

Both teams are undefeated in their last four league games. Juventus are coming off a 2-0 win over Genoa, while Atalanta won 3-0 over Lecce earlier this week. With these two sides in fine form, something has to give when they square off again.

This is certainly the pick of the litter in Matchday 32, and SBOTOP has you covered with today’s preview.

Talking Points

Atalanta receive frontline boost

After missing the last two games, Gianluca Scamacca has been upgraded to probable against Juventus this Saturday night, giving Atalanta a massive boost in the final third.

Scamacca was on the sidelines due to an adductor injury he sustained recently. The knock also caused the former West Ham United striker to miss Italy’s games against Northern Ireland and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the World Cup qualifiers, and his attacking threat could’ve come in handy for the Azzurri, who will miss the finals for the third straight time.

Head coach Raffaele Palladino will likely stick with the same starting XI he had against Lecce, with Nikola Krstovic – their leading scorer with nine goals – as the lone striker, with Nicola Zalewski and Charles De Ketelaere behind him. Giacomo Raspadori could also make a strong case to start up front, as he has previously struck four times against Juventus in Serie A and has registered three goal contributions from his last five league appearances. Meanwhile, Swedish centre-back Isak Hien won’t play this weekend due to a thigh injury.

No McKennie for Juventus

Juventus won over Genoa last time out, as Gleison Bremer and Weston McKennie scored two early goals. However, one of them is out this Saturday, as McKennie must serve his suspension.

Losing McKennie is a big blow to I Bianconeri, as he’s grown into one of the team’s most consistent performers this term. The American midfielder recently signed a contract extension, a far cry from a few months ago when he appeared to have no future at the club. McKennie has registered five goals and four assists.

Jeremie Boga will likely take McKennie’s spot in the starting XI, and the Frenchman will likely join Jonathan David, Francisco Conceicao, and Kenan Yildiz – the team’s top scorer with 10 goals and six assists – in the final third.

History

Saturday marks the third encounter between Atalanta and Juventus this campaign. I Bianconeri shared the spoils with La Dea in a 1-1 draw during their first league meeting of the season last September. However, Atalanta bounced back with a 3-0 win in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals last February.

Atalanta are unbeaten in their last four Serie A matches (W2, D2), and as a result, they now have more points (53) than they had at this stage of three of their previous four seasons. La Dea are also undefeated at home in Serie A in 2026 (W6, D1).

Juventus are unbeaten in their last five Serie A matches (W3, D2), notching three shutout wins. But I Bianconeri have yet to win a Serie A away match to a current Top 7 side this term (D1, L3).
