Spurs vs Chelsea
London’s calling on Saturday afternoon when the capital’s biggest Premier League hopefuls come face to face in the tea-time kick-off at Wembley Stadium.
It’s Spurs against Chelsea, fourth playing third, and the defeated team might well start losing sight of the top two depending on the Saturday afternoon Premier League 2018 results. Premier League 2018 odds say the title is more than likely to stay in the North West of England with Manchester City and Liverpool setting a furious pace.
Both have winnable games in London as it happens against Watford and West Ham. And if those results go as expected, then Spurs and Chelsea must mind the gap!
Talking Points
Can Harry reach even greater heights?
Spurs aren’t a one-man team, they’re far from it. But their success is often paralleled by the scoring exploits of England skipper Harry Kane. Much has been said of his inability to make a fast start to the season, and there have been questions around his fitness and energy levels after a gruelling World Cup campaign. But Kane already has six goals to his name, just two behind Sergio Aguero at the top of the Premier League scorers list.
Mauricio Pochettino has players returning from injury, and we could see a start for the influential centre-back Jan Vertonghen, who has missed the last nine games with a hamstring injury. Juan Foyth has had an action-packed start to his Spurs career, giving away two penalties one week and then scoring the winner the next, a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. But Pochettino will be pleased to see the return of one of the mainstays of his defensive unit, which has been so effective over the past two seasons: “Jan is such an important player for us. We have a very busy period ahead so it’s important to recover our players,” he said.
Can Chelsea mount a real challenge?
Maurizio Sarri has made an excellent start as Chelsea coach and he seems to be getting the best from Eden Hazard, who has added more goals to his game. Only Aguero has more than Hazard’s seven goals and a better minute per goal ratio of 111 minutes to Hazard’s 112. And you’d have to say that Hazard has the edge as a playmaker, though they both have four assists.
Behind Hazard, the Blues have a superb engine room. Jorginho followed Sarri from Naples to Stamford Bridge and he has added that extra quality to Chelsea’s midfield, already blessed by the incredible talent of N’Golo Kante. He has been teaching his new team-mate how to play Sarri-Ball, and the World Cup winner can adapt to anything. Already a brilliant box-to-box midfielder, Kante is often at the centre of Chelsea’s build-up play as they hunt for goals.
This is a quality team from back to front, with the tenacity to stay with the pace-setters. But Spurs away is a game they should look to dominate if they have genuine title aspirations.
Results against the Big Six:
Despite having a stunning 0-3 victory away to Manchester United, Spurs have a poor record against their title rivals, losing twice at Wembley already to Manchester City and Liverpool.
The Blues have had an early-season win over Arsenal. They then had two home draws, a 1-1 with Liverpool and then a 2-2 draw with Manchester United, when they should really have been out of sight by half-time.
History
Chelsea have had by far the better of these fixtures since 1993, winning 30 of the 56 meetings while the Whites have managed just seven victories.
The Blues have won the last three meetings, including a 2017 4-2 FA Cup win and a double over Pochettino’s men last term, 1-2 at Wembley and 3-1 at the Bridge.
Betting Tip
Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea | Chelsea Asian Handicap 0.00 @ 1.88 | |
November 25, 01:30 (GMT+8) |
This is sure to be another great contest, and SBOBET odds are predicting a close match with Spurs at 2.76 and Chelsea at 2.53 and the draw out there at 3.20.
Chelsea’s away record reads four wins, one draw and no defeats. With Spurs losing at home to Liverpool and City already, they must fancy their chances of at least maintaining their unbeaten record, or claiming another three points on the road.
Spurs need to show some steel and, if their big players perform as they can, then they could well get something from the game. The overwhelmingly favourite score-line is 1-1 at odds of 6.00, but if the match goes either way, I suspect Chelsea’s quality and greater squad depth might make the difference.
