Premier League: Advantage Arsenal…Again

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League table to six points thanks to a 4-0 win away to Leeds United on Saturday, before their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur did them a huge favour on Sunday, holding Manchester City to a 2-2 draw.

And in other Premier League 2026 news, third placed Aston Villa lost to ten-man Brentford as their slim title hopes took a serious knock.

After Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka injured himself in the warm up, his replacement Noni Madueke softened the blow with a superb first half performance, setting up the opener for Martin Zubimendi and then forcing an own goal from Kevin Darlow with an unplayable ball into the danger area.

There was a long awaited start for Kai Havertz and goals for Viktor Gyokores and Gabriel Jesus as the Gunners swept Leeds away in style.

The latest Premier League 2026 betting odds, here at SBOTOP, already favoured Arteta’s men, but events at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium made it a near prefect weekend for Arsenal after Spurs came back from a two goal deficit to draw with Manchester City. Thomas Frank has been under increasing pressure as the Whites have struggled to put a run together, and things looked even grimmer for the Spurs boss as City took advantage of sloppy defending to race ahead with smart finishes from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo.

But the Sky Blues took their foot off the gas and Tottenham suddenly sprung into life, with two goals from Dominic Solanke, the second a spectacular overhead flick which flew past Gigi Donnarumma and into the net.

Respite for Frank but frustration for Pep Guardiola.

Third placed Villa faced Brentford at a time when the Bees were buzzing and despite going to down to ten men Keith Andrews registered their third win over Unai Emery’s Villans this season. Brentford scored the only goal of the game when Dango Outarra scored in first half injury time. Brentford were already one short by that stage when Kevin Schade kicked out at Matty Cash and saw red.

The Bees had their backs against the wall as 27 shots rained down on their goal and they needed the help of VAR to cancel out an equaliser from Tammy Abraham, but they held out to go seventh while Villa slipped seven points off the lead.

Three from three for Carrick…

Fulham were hoping to wreck Michael Carrick’s perfect start to his career as Manchester United boss and they came so close when they equalised early in stoppage time. But the Red Devils rolled back the years as they hit back to score a late winner to give their interim coach a third league win from three. After beating both Manchester City and Arsenal and clash with the Cottagers had all the hallmarks of a banana skin until the Red Devils scored on 19 minutes when Casemiro headed home a Bruno Fernandes free-kick, though Fulham boss Marco Silva was angered by the award. And then early in the second half Matheus Cunha doubled the hosts’ lead, but the Cottagers roared back. First Raul Jimenez scored from the penalty spot and then Kevin scored a beauty, curled into the top corner.

But, under Carrick, Manchester United look more like a Sir Alex Ferguson side and when Benjamin Sesko received the ball 15 yards out, he turned and smashed it high into the Fulham net to make it 3-2.

The Red Devils are up to fourth and five points behind Villa in third place.

…and five from five for Rosenior.

Chelsea warmed up for their upcoming EFL semi-final clash with Arsenal with a thrilling 3-2 win over West Ham United, a result which left them fifth, a point behind Manchester United, while the Hammers stay rooted in the bottom three; and the win made it five wins from five for new boss Rosenior, since he lost the EFL first leg against the Gunners.

And the Blues went one better than Tottenham, coming back from a two goal deficit to win, thanks to a last gasp Enzo Fernandez strike. The Chelsea manager made seven changes from the team which beat Napoli in the Champions League and they looked disjointed as goals from Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville put the Hammers in charge. Rosenior reacted by bringing on Wesley Fofana, Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella and the substitutions paid dividends, as Fofana teed up Pedro and then Cucurella nodded home to level.

When Fernandez fired home the winner there was bedlam in the Stadium and the Rosenior bandwagon rolls on.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool make up the top six after they handed out a 4-1 thrashing to Newcastle United, as Hugo Ekitike scored a brace; but the Reds’ title hopes have long gone, with 14 points to make up and 14 games left.
